Tonal abstracts reflect the Sanskrit concept of ‘raga’ which is a type of ancient traditional melodic pattern in the music of India, including both ascending and descending patterns of an abbreviated number of notes. The word ‘raga’ means ‘coloration’; painting in this technique results in vibrant visual patterns that expand the inner landscape of the mind and spirit.
